Free Karaoke Music Using MIDI Files
You can find tons of information on the Internet about MIDI, creating Karaoke music files, and using the literally hundreds, maybe even thousands of different programs and hardware out there. You can easily find yourself overwhelmed and confused with all of the choices and all of the information.
But, if you are like me, you want to sing, not become a music producer. So, this page will go over some of the easiest ways to locate and use MIDI files for singing Karaoke.
What is MIDI and Why is it Useful?
If you don't know what MIDI is and how flexible it can be, read on. If you already know, you can safely skip this section.
MIDI got its start in the 80s and stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface and it a way for MIDI instruments and music sequencers (usually this is computer software) to communicate with each other in order to play and record music. A lot of the music that is on the radio these days is created using this.
The main thing to know about MIDI is that it is not music in the way we usually think of soundwaves, think of MIDI more like a director that tells the instruments what and how to play. For example, a common MIDI controller is looks like a small electronic keyboard. This keyboard sends the sequencer program information on things such as pitch of note played, duration the note is held, sound that the note should take, such as guitar, horn, or drum.
When you locate MIDI files that have already been made, you will have a basic knowledge of MIDI.
The world of MIDI is quite fascinating and can get quite complex for the beginner, but I don't want to overwhelm you with too much detail.

What You Need to Use MIDI Karaoke Files
For our purposes of getting MIDI for Karaoke singing, you will need some or all of the following:

a laptop or desk computer

a microphone to plug in your PC

Of course, you need the MIDI themselves! Or get some .KAR files. These are all over the Internet.
Remember though, not all MIDI files have have lyrics. But with the player I suggest, you can always add lyrics youself.
